\"Healing the Rift\"

About the Book

As a scientist developing new drugs, Leo Kim felt helpless and frustrated as he watched cancer patients die. He embarked on a twenty-five year spiritual quest to understand human existence and what this world is all about.

Thesis

The thesis of Healing the Rift is that the conflicts between science and spirituality can be resolved with recent scientific discoveries, which reveal that our world is a blending of mind and spirit.

Science

Science attempts to explain our world without a creator, spirit, or design. It constantly seeks new information with which to test and revise its theories.

Spirituality–Is it real?

Spirituality accepts that the most important aspects of our world are hidden beyond human comprehension. It labels this realm spirit, soul, and God. So, who is right? Are we simply a collection of cells that eventually becomes sick and die? Is there a plan for us?

Science & spirituality–Are they really in disagreement?

Science addresses the second question from a different perspective than spirituality, and it ignores the third question. Spirituality focuses on the third question, and it answers the question with an emphatic yes.

The 90% consensus

A poll conducted by Gallup in 2000 revealed that 90% of the people in the United States believe in a spiritual dimension. Yet, most of us also believe in science. These facts support the need for Healing the Rift, which takes the reader through a metaphysical and scientific journey that explores where we came from, what we are, and the illusory nature of reality.

Seemingly outlandish science

In the last century, science’s view of reality became seemingly absurd, even to leading scientists such as Einstein. Within the last decade, the foundations of science trembled with the discovery that 96% of our world is missing. Furthermore, many scientists believe that parallel universes exist along side our world. Scientists propose such concepts as multiple hidden dimensions and particles that pop in and out of existence in “empty” space.

Misperceptions

To understand our existence, we must realize how our perceptions misrepresent reality. They allow us to survive and function, but do not reflect what is really “out there.” The notion that matter and time are illusions is both startling and fascinating. If we saw reality, we would see nothing, since the universe is only energy and information. Even more incredible is the leading theory on the origin of the universe, which asserts that it began from a dimensionless point. During the last several decades, leading scientists have concluded that our world is both mental and spiritual.

Leo Kim’s personal journey

But to research and write this book, one needs to have the authority to document the claims. Leo Kim draws upon his own personal experiences, publications, and research as well as citing numerous Nobel Laureates. This journey has been, and continues to be, his passion and obsession. Kim combines scientific expertise with extensive studies of the powers of the mind, Eastern and Western religious teachings, and spiritual modalities that could help reveal the true nature of our existence. The account of the author’s background and transformation introduces many of the chapters, and, it is a story in itself. He describes his spiritual studies, his experience in a cancer ward, a healing he performed, as well as other personal experiences relevant to the chapters.

Healing the Rift

Leo Kim explains the science in simple terms with numerous entertaining examples, metaphors, and anecdotes. The chapters build to a climax when we learn how twenty-first-century science reveals a new emerging truth and how this truth is consistent with spirituality, an afterlife, and the potential human legacy. Modern science does support our spirituality—and the result is Healing the Rift.
